EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION FOR DEAF PEOPLE IN CRISIS SITUATIONS

With this project we addressed the pressing need to ensure quality and effective communication with deaf people during crisis situations to overcome communication barriers, improve their media literacy and stimulate their civic responsibility and activism.

The project includes two main strands:
(a) improving collective skills in the community to process, evaluate and disseminate information
(b) creating an effective system of gestures in the community to accurately and clearly report events during emergencies and crises.

  • COVID-19 demonstrated the clear need to develop an effective system for accurate clear reporting of events during emergencies, especially in the Deaf community. The project has therefore proved particularly useful in relation to facilitating the dissemination of accessible information to these communities.
